Nowadays people are more concerned about their environment. One of the most serious environmental problems is pollution in its many forms. The air in big cities is being polluted by traffic and industry. Our government should improve public transport because cars cause too much air pollution. I hate it when I'm riding my bike in the street and I can hardly breathe because of the traffic fumes.
Factories and plants also pollute air pouring harmful gases and smoke into the air and that causes a lot of diseases. Pollution from factories and cars is the main reason for the greenhouse effect and acid rains. The acid rain kills trees and plants.
Water pollution has become a serious problem because factories also pour poisonous wastes into streams and rivers.
Over half of the people in the world have to live with water shortage every day. Government can help to solve this problem by passing laws to stop factories from wasting and polluting water. If factories recycled water and stopped pouring chemicals into our lakes and rivers, there would be a lot more clean water around.
Disappearing of rainforests is another important problem. Rainforests produce 20 % of the world’s oxygen supply. Government should stop logging companies from destroying the rainforests. I can help to save the rainforests by not wasting paper, recycling newspares and magazines, and not buying wooden furniture.
However, there are a lot of simple things we should all do to
stop the destruction of the environment. First of all, we must keep
our cities and towns clean. That means, we mustn’t drop litter in
public places. We should recycle bottles and paper.
We must stop using aerosol sprays because they destroy the ozone layer. If we take action now, there might be some hope for the future.
If we do nothing, we are heading for disaster!
